Frequently Asked Questions
The San Patricio County property tax calendar sets the key dates every homeowner and business owner needs — from the January 1 valuation date to the May 15 protest deadline. Missing a date can cost you money, so here’s the full year at a glance.
May 15, or 30 days after the San Patricio County Appraisal District mails your notice of appraised value — whichever is later. If that date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.
You generally lose the right to protest that year’s appraised value, and it becomes final for your tax bill. Limited late-protest options exist — for example, if you never received your notice — but you shouldn’t rely on them. The safest move is to file by the deadline, or have Tax Cutter file for you.
Yes. April 30 is the standard deadline, but Texas lets you file a late homestead exemption for up to two years after the taxes became delinquent, and it can apply retroactively for those years. Filing is free and one-time.
April 15. Business owners can request an automatic extension to May 15 in writing. Missing the rendition deadline can trigger a penalty of 10% of the property’s taxes, so file on time.
